I have cried reading it to my baby. I didn't like that the author repeated himself so much "Big Nutbrown Hare, Little Nutbrown Hare" over and over and it becomes quite a tongue twister. Hardcover. Overall a great book. This book was fantastic. Large print. When I read it to my baby boy, I usually just say Big Hare and Little Hare/Bunny.
This book is such a classic, I got it for my grandaughter and she loved it. It came in a timely fashion in good shape, thanks for your business.
Based on these two factors, the book rates one star. The other off-putting issue with this book is the one-up-man-ship of Big Nutbrown Hare. Whenever I read this book to my daughter, she starts fidgeting on my lap and looking around for her other books. The illustrations are beautiful, but somewhat monochromatic (the hares are brown of course, but there's not much variety of background.). The book may purport to be about unconditional love, but Big Nutbrown Hare makes a point to show Little Nutbrown Hare that he's always going to have the last word and most clever reply.
Because the dialogue is often abstract, the 0-3 crowd may not understand or follow it, so I recommendthe paperback or hardback version rather than the board book. Little Nutbrown Hare falls asleep believing he has won with "I love you as far as the moon." but Big Nutbrown Hare gently cradles him and lays him down, whispering, "I love you as far as the moon. A bedtime conversation between father and son, which echoes God's eternal love for His children. As Big Nutbrown Hare prepares Little Nutbrown Hare for bed, Little Nutbrown Hare initiates a contest of one-upmanship, in which each comes up with similes to express their love for the other. and back."This is a tender, beautiful conversation, illustrated in lively, pleasing pictures with plenty of movement and interest.
